February markets rallied following the dip in January with the Dow Jones closing above 18000. Smaller company stocks show recovery after lagging last year and again outperform large company stocks. Technology continues to lead market growth as it has over the past ten years. A market correction is still anticipated but may take the form of continuous volatility with slower net gains over time. After a tough month stock markets closed down again on Friday, increasing losses for January. With average index losses of 3% for the month, the year is off to a slow start. At their meeting last week the Federal Reserve postponed the initial interest rate hike until after June. September becomes the next likely date for this. December markets recovered well mid-month with words of reassurance from the Federal Reserve. After climbing to record highs by the holidays, reality seemed to set in as the month closed. Opening the new year markets have shown caution, eliminating recent gains. Market indices averaged an increase of 0.4% for the month and rose an average of 9% for 2014.
